Joseph Wang was born and raised in northern New Jersey. As a kid, he never dreamed of going into design or art -- he wasn't talented at drawing or other artsy things. He just wanted to play professional basketball. He wanted to be Jordan and do all those spiffy moves. Unfortunately, he realized later that he wasn't quite athletic. Actually, he was fat and slow. It was time for a new dream.

Sometime during middle school, Joe discovered the worlds of HTML and Photoshop and coded a blog about his uneventful life as a 13-year-old. But any progress in design took a detour when he decided to spend his high school years at Bergen County Academies, a magnet school for math and science. Basically, he was a nerd for those 4 years. After a growth spurt magically made him skinnier and faster, he kept himself sane by joining the basketball, track, and volleyball teams. Good memories. It was also during those years that his car once broke down in the middle of an intersection and was repeatedly honked at. Bad memories.

He's now attending Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, as a biological sciences major and communication design minor. During his freshman year, he learned of the powers of Illustrator. Vectors blew his mind. Without any formal education in design, Joe decided to jump into freelance design for no reason, really, and has been fortunate enough to design brand identities, websites, and clothing for some great companies and organizations. Currently a senior, Joe is pursuing a career in dentistry but figures to keep design as a side job to balance out all that organic chemistry and cell biology going into his head.
